Are you dreaming of an intimate wedding, outdoors surrounded by a stunning landscape? Elopements have become increasingly popular, but deciding exactly WHERE you should elope is difficult. Especially in a place as beautiful as Maui!
Maui is magical. You've heard it before. Maui is the Hawaiian island known for its gorgeous beaches, lush greenery, and breathtaking landscapes. With so many gorgeous beaches to choose from, it can be overwhelming to decide the perfect spot for your special day.
As a wedding photographer who has captures 6 years of elopements on Maui, I have seen some of the most incredible locations the island has to offer. I'm about to share my top three picks for the best places to elope on the island, narrowed down by where you are staying on the island.
1. Secrets Beach / Makena Cove - South Side Maui
The name "Secrets Beach" says it all. You enter this beach through a magical opening in a brick wall. This secluded and intimate beach on the south side of Maui is perfect for couples looking to get away from the crowds. Surrounded by lava rocks and palm trees, this hidden gem boasts turquoise waters and soft white sand – a picture-perfect spot for exchanging vows. As a wedding photographer, I highly recommend Secrets Beach in Makena for couples looking for a private and romantic elopement. Also important to note= this is the only beach you're allowed to get married at in Makena.
2. Black Sand / Wai'anapanapa State Park - East Side Maui
If you're looking for a completely unique and jaw-dropping backdrop for your elopement, then Black Sand Beach at Wai'anapanapa State Park is the perfect choice. The beach, as the name suggests, has stunning black sand, and the stark contrast against the blue waters and greenery makes for a stunning and memorable photo shoot. The park also features natural lava rock formations, sea cliffs, and even a freshwater cave – the perfect setting for a romantic and adventurous elopement.
3. Ironwoods Beach / Oneloa Beach - West Side Maui
Located on the west side of Maui, Ironwoods Beach (known in Hawaiian as Oneloa Beach) is pristine and secluded – perfect for an intimate elopement. Oneloa Beach boasts a dramatic shoreline with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, imagine a long stretch of soft white sand, a poppy surf, and lined in gorgeous lava rock formations. This beach offers privacy, ideal for couples seeking an intimate experience. Although it can be windy! Send me a message and ask what time of day I'd plan a wedding here.
Whether you're seeking a private and secluded beach, a dramatic backdrop, or a panoramic ocean view, Maui has it all. As a wedding and elopement photographer, I give these three places my stamp of approval as the best places to elope on Maui. These stunning locations are sure to make your special day unforgettable.
