How to get married at Sapphire Point : Breckenridge, Colorado

Updated: Jun 12, 2023

Woman in a wedding dress sits on a rock infront of Lake Dillon with mountains in the background.

If you're considering an intimate wedding or elopement, Sapphire Point Colorado might just be the perfect spot for you. This stunning overlook is located in Summit County and boasts breathtaking views of Lake Dillon and the surrounding mountain ranges. As a wedding photographer, I have had the privilege of capturing many beautiful weddings and elopements at Sapphire Point, and in this blog post, I'll be sharing all the information you need to know about getting married at this amazing location.

In this blog post I'll go over how to get married at Sapphire Point.

Location and Access

Sapphire Point is located on Swan Mountain Road, just a short drive from the town of Breckenridge. The overlook is easily accessible via a paved trail that is approximately 15-20 minutes long, making it a great option for couples who want a jawdroppingly beautiful location that doesn't require a strenuous hike. The overlook is located right next to the parking lot and it continues on a .6 mile loop. And it is seriously one of the most awesome trails!! Highly recommend.

The overlook itself is located within the White River National Forest, which means that a valid permit is required to have a wedding ceremony there. Fortunately, obtaining a permit is a straightforward process, and the staff at the Dillon Ranger District are always happy to assist with any questions you may have. Keep in mind that the overlook is a day use area, which means that weddings and elopements must take place during designated time slots and all visitors must vacate the area by sunset.

Time Slots and Reservation Confirmation

To ensure that everyone has a chance to enjoy the beauty of Sapphire Point, the overlook is divided into time slots that must be reserved in advance. There are two time slots available each day during the summer months, and one time slot per day during the winter. It's important to note that the reservation system is first-come, first-served, so it's a good idea to book your time slot as soon as possible.

Permits are $118 for 2 hours and can be reserved 1 year in advance. Warning* These permits can be quite competitive but don't worry because if we don't get the permit here there are soo many wonderful options. Message me for more information about having your elopement day or micro wedding at Sapphire Point. Reserve the spot here.

Once you've reserved your time, you will receive a confirmation email with all the details you need to know about your wedding day at Sapphire Point. The email will include information about parking, the paved trail to the overlook, and any restrictions or guidelines you need to follow during your ceremony.

Wedding Ceremonies and Elopements

Sapphire Point is a popular spot for both wedding ceremonies and elopements, and it's easy to see why. The stunning views of Lake Dillon and the surrounding mountain ranges make for a truly unforgettable backdrop for your special day.

Whether you're planning a larger wedding or a more intimate elopement, there are plenty of options for you at Sapphire Point. The overlook can accommodate up to 35 guests, which makes it a great option for couples who want to include a small group of family and friends in their celebration.

Wedding Venues and Planning

While Sapphire Point is a beautiful location for your wedding ceremony or elopement, it's important to keep in mind that it is a day use area and does not offer any amenities for weddings or receptions. This means that you will need to find a separate wedding venue for your reception, or plan to have a more intimate celebration with just your closest family and friends.

Fortunately, there are plenty of great wedding venues in Summit County and the surrounding areas. From elegant ballrooms to rustic mountain lodges, there are options for every style and budget. As a wedding photographer, I am always happy to offer recommendations and help my clients find the perfect venue for their celebration.

Winter Weddings and Elopements

While many couples choose to get married at Sapphire Point during the summer months, winter weddings and elopements are also a popular choice. The snowy landscapes and quiet beauty of the area make for a truly magical winter wedding experience and the trail remains easily accessible and easy to walk year round.

If you're considering a winter wedding or elopement at Sapphire Point, there are a few things to keep in mind. Winter weather in Colorado can be unpredictable, so it's important to have a backup plan in case of heavy snow or inclement weather. It's important to dress warmly and consider things like transportation and parking, as snowy conditions can make travel more difficult.

Adventure Elopements

For couples who are looking for a truly unique and unforgettable elopement experience, adventure elopements are a great option. These elopements typically involve a bit more planning and coordination, but they offer the opportunity to explore some of the most beautiful and remote locations in the area. For those wanting to include family for the ceremony and then do an adventure session afterwards this is a great spot!

In conclusion, Sapphire Point Colorado is a stunning location for your wedding ceremony or elopement. From the breathtaking views to the easy access and convenient reservation system, it's easy to see why this spot is so popular among couples. Whether you're planning a larger wedding or a more intimate elopement, Sapphire Point offers endless opportunities for adventure and beauty. As a wedding photographer, I always feel privileged to capture the love and beauty of this incredible location and I highly recommend it to any couple looking for a unique and unforgettable wedding day experience.
